What Is a Tooth Filling?

Dental fillings are used to repair teeth affected by decay, preventing additional damage from occurring. After removing all decayed and damaged areas of the tooth, a filling is used to repair the cavity and restore the function of the affected tooth.

What Are Tooth Crowns and Tooth Bridges?

A dental bridge is a device used to replace one or more missing teeth, and they can be supported by dental implants or natural teeth. Crowns, or dental caps, are commonly used to cover a damaged tooth, attach a dental bridge, or cover a dental implant.

What Type of Dentist Do I Need for Fillings, Crowns, and Bridges?

In addition to fillings, your general or family dentist can also provide dental bridge work and crowns. A prosthodontist, a specialist with additional training in the replacement and repair of missing teeth, may be needed for complex procedures. If you need a filling to treat a cavity or are interested in improving your smile with crowns or dental bridge work, contact our office today to make an appointment.

How Much Does a Filling, Dental Bridge, or Crown Cost?

Since every patient has unique needs, there are many things that can affect the cost of a crown, bridge, or filling. If you require any other dental procedures and the materials chosen to create your dental crown are the primary factors in determining your dental crown cost. Your dental bridge cost is affected by the materials used to create the bridge, your insurance coverage, and the overall health of your mouth, and tooth filling cost will vary depending on which filling material you receive and whether you have dental insurance.

Are There Different Types of Fillings?

If you have a cavity and need a tooth filling, our dentists offer many different options, including porcelain, natural-colored composite, gold, porcelain, glass, and silver amalgam. Your budget, insurance coverage, and aesthetic preferences are factors that will determine the type of filling you choose.

What Are the Different Types of Crowns?

There are many materials used to make crowns for teeth, including porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal, metal alloy, and gold alloy. To learn more about how you can restore your smile with a tooth crown, contact us to make an appointment.

What Are My Options for Dental Bridges?

Our dentists offer an implant-supported bridge, cantilever bridge, or a fixed bridge to improve the look of your smile. Schedule your appointment today, and learn which tooth bridge option is the right choice for you.

Dental Crown Procedure

At your first appointment for a tooth crown, your dentist will file and shape the tooth so there’s enough room to place a permanent crown. Next, a mold of the tooth is taken and sent to a dental laboratory to create a custom-made crown. To protect the tooth while the final crown is being created, a temporary crown is placed over the tooth. During your last appointment, the temporary crown is taken off and the new crown is fastened to the tooth with special adhesive.

Dental Bridge Procedure

The tooth bridge procedure is a multi-step process that begins with shaping and preparing the teeth that will provide support for the bridge. Next, an impression of your teeth is taken and sent to a dental laboratory that will manufacture a bridge that fits the shape of your mouth. While your custom-made bridge is being created, you’ll wear a temporary device that protects your teeth and gums. During your last visit, your dentist fits and cements the bridge to complete the restoration.
