Is a Porcelain Veneer the Right Treatment for My Dental Issue?

A porcelain veneer, which is made from thin layers of dental-grade porcelain, can be used to correct a wide range of cosmetic dental issues, including:

  • Discoloration caused by age, tobacco, coffee, tea, or medications
  • Irregularities in the size or shape of the teeth caused by trauma or tooth grinding
  • Gaps or alignment issues that are not severe enough to require braces.

Your dentist will perform a comprehensive examination to determine if you are a candidate for porcelain veneers.

How Do I Decide Between Porcelain Veneers or Porcelain Crowns?

Veneers and crowns are made from the same material and are permanently attached to the underlying tooth. Veneers, however, only cover the front surface of the tooth, so they are best suited for teeth that have cosmetic imperfections but are still generally healthy. Crowns, which are commonly referred to as porcelain teeth, cover the entire surface of the tooth. They are normally used in situations where the underlying structure of the tooth has been compromised by trauma or decay. Crowns also work better than veneers on the back teeth since they receive the most force when chewing. In order for a crown to fit properly, the dentist may have to remove up to 2 millimeters of the natural tooth enamel, which is significantly more than with veneers.

Is the Porcelain Veneers Procedure Painful?

The veneers porcelain process is virtually painless. The dentist will start by creating a mold of your teeth, which will be used to make the veneers. The dentist may have to remove a small amount of your natural tooth enamel to attach the veneer; however, this may not be necessary if you choose an ultrathin type of veneer, such as Lumineers®.

What Is It Like Before and After Veneers?

Once attached, the veneers should feel completely natural. While you should avoid candy apples and other very hard foods, you can eat and drink normally. Veneers are also extremely durable and should last for decades with routine brushing and flossing and regular dental visits.

Are Veneers Made from Porcelain Expensive?

The type of veneer chosen, the number of veneers required, and the overall health of your teeth will determine your final porcelain veneers cost. We will discuss price following your initial consultation and help you find payment arrangements to make your porcelain veneers cost as manageable as possible.

What Are Lumineers®?

Lumineers® are ultrathin veneers. They can last over 20 years and usually don’t require the removal of the tooth enamel.
