Three tips for better flossing habits

When it comes to taking care of your mouth, brushing alone often isn't enough. In order to get between your teeth to remove harmful plaque and bacteria, you also need to include regular flossing as part of your daily routine. Here are three tips to help you work toward better flossing habits.

1. Keep floss with you

If you're not in the habit of doing it, remembering to floss in the morning, afternoon or before bed can be difficult to do. For those moments on-the-go when you realize you missed a step after brushing, consider carrying some dental floss with you for a quick touchup.

2. Stick with it

This might seem obvious, but you really need to stick with flossing on a daily basis if you want to make it a permanent fixture in your life. Make a point to set aside enough time at least twice a day to floss for two or three weeks without skipping a day.

3. Cell phone reminder

Sometimes you just need a quick reminder to keep on flossing. Instead of relying on a friend or family member to prompt you, consider setting a daily alarm on your cell phone that instructs you to floss. You can have the alarm go off when you're getting ready in the morning and before bed for added convenience.
